Called 'Anne Boleyn', by an Unknown Artist, Bibliothèque
nationale de France
|
Unfortunately, the portrait is not comparable to known
likenesses of Anne Boleyn, and the coat-of-arms is not hers. The inscription
appears to be a later addition as well.
The search continues...
Bearing in mind that this is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, doesn't this painting have some connection with the drawings of "La Royne Marie", even though the painting shows a veil that the drawings don't?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input.
ReplyDeleteThough the headdresses are somewhat similar, this sitter and Mary Tudor look facially different (in my opinion).
The coat of arms (unless it's an erroneous later addition) holds the key to who she is.
